Following a six week hiatus, Duchess of Cambridge fashion watch has reconvened. And, in true royal form, Kate Middleton’s first public appearance since giving birth to Princess Charlotte’s a wonderfully classy and well-dressed one. Joining her husband, Prince William, as well as Prince Harry, and the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall (Charles and Camilla), the family came together at Buckingham Palace for the annual Trooping of the Color parade.

The celebration marks Queen Elizabeth’s birthday in monarchial terms (her calendar birthday’s April 21 and she turned 89). For the occasion, the entire crew was dressed to the nines, including the Queen herself in a peach ensemble and matching hat. Middleton looked in a Catherine Walker Astrid coat dress. The ice blue silk jacket’s covered in white flowers and she accessorized with a Marisbel hat from Locke & Co., which retails for $1.400. It seems that it’s not an important event for the English if oversized hats aren’t involved, and the 33-year-old’s white frisbee-like fascinator with curlicues is certainly special.
Following this unspoken headgear mandate, Prince William wore a hat as well and was decked out in full military regalia. His topper was a little more wild (literally) and had on one of the bearskin fur helmets worn by the Royal Guard. They take an entire skin of a black bear to make and are 18 inches tall.
Prince George, who will turn 2 in July, was obviously excited by all the millinery and before joining his family on the balcony he was spotted with his nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion, babbling from a distant window (there was no sign of newborn Charlotte). Later, he changed into a light blue onesie, the same one his father wore for his first Trooping in 1984.

Oh tradition, isn’t it charming?
