Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid & Others Moon Walk Down the H&M Runway in Paris

I may be a Paris Fashion Week newbie, but I know a good party when I see one. And if there was ever a show to meet such expectations, it was H&M’s Fall 2015 spectacular on Wednesday night. For one, the set was out of this world—literally—as it was meant to look like the models were walking on the moon. Everything was covered in paste-ups that were meant to evoke a lunar landing, and silver UFO-like constructions were scattered throughout the runway. (The venue was so big, it could’ve easy been it’s own galaxy).

The opening look was Parisian model-turned-DJ-turned-author Caroline de Maigret, who strode out in a silver onesie, armed with a remote control in one hand and a helmet in another. Her space odyssey took her to one of the UFO structures, which also happened to be a deejay booth. Then came the real show, which included a roster of top models that included Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls, Constance Jablonski, and Saskia de Brauw, among others. To make matters better, the girls smiled as they strutted through the set to the tune of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” The personalities on the sidelines were equally as cool with Karolina Kurkova, Solange Knowles, Sophia Richie, and Mark Ronson sitting front row.

The coolest part, though, was that the clothes were totally wearable; making them the furthest thing “from Mars.” The looks came in shades of gray, green, maroon, and blue, as well as burnt orange and occasional galactic stripes. There were turtlenecks—the on-trend piece that have permeated almost all collections—overalls, and asymmetrical maxi-skirts. The blazers, fur coats, and knits were perfect for fall/winter, and leather-trimmed caps, gloves, and oversized duffle bags were nice accouterments.
"We put a lot more effort into the accessories and worked closely with the team to make sure the clothes worked really tightly with them," Ann-Sofie Johansson, creative advisor at H&M, tells Yahoo Style. "From the beginning we wanted to have a layered look and the accessories added to that too. We are all about wearability and our collection is certainly cool, effortless, and wearable." And that’s exactly what it was. The looks were quite refreshing, as I find that a handful of runway collections are beautiful but impractical. It was functional, sporty, and tomboy-esque in the most glam way.

The show ended, the smoke machines gasped for the last time, and the UFOs turned into champagne-filled bars. And while I sat upon a moon rock, watching the runway transform into a makeshift nightclub, I couldn’t help but think about how excited this earthling was to scoop up H&M’s collection once it hits stores.
