Kendall Walks Her First Show of NYFW & More In Today's Fashion Crib Sheet, Day 3

Fashion waits for no one—not even on Saturday or Valentine’s Day! We got to spend the holiday with the sweethearts of design such as Babyghost, Moncler, Alexander Wang, and Joseph Altuzarra as well as Naomi Campbell and Justin Bieber. What’s more romantic than that? Here’s what you need to know going into Day 4.

Alexander Wang’s Hard Core Show

With Kimye, Zoe Kravitz, and Nicki Minaj looking on, Alexander Wang's stormed the runway dressed like hard core heavy metal chicks in combat boots with platform soles and predominately all black ensembles heavily adorned with rivets. The show also marked Kendall Jenner’s first of the season. (She told us she was nervous and prayed before the show.) Where will she pop up next?

Natasha Lyonne Has An Imaginary Daughter Named Susan

Actress Natasha Lyonne was sitting front row at Alexander Wang’s show last night. “I loved it, this is so me! I used to wear those shoes in the ’90s,” referring to the industrial-raver platforms the designer sent down the runway. Does she still have them? “No, I gave them to my daughter Susan,” the actress said, trying to pull a fast one on us. “You have a daughter?” said her friend Derek Blasberg, who she was calling her “dad” for the night. “I do as of now!,” Lyonne responded, “I just gave them a daughter named Susan.” Don’t ever change, Natasha. Don’t ever change.

Joseph Altuzarra’s Elegant Fall

And herein lies the yin and yang of fashion: following Wang’s headbanger’s ball, was a serene moment with Joseph Altuzarra’s lady of the manor. (Or as he referenced it in the show notes, 18th century dandies meets Truman Capote’s swans.) The designer showed glorious coats with full fox-fur collars, and lace-up boots that stopped over the ankle or above the knee. There were also an assortment of Candyland-esque furs in shades of light blue and pink. Expect to see women who are not afraid of a thigh-high slit scooping up the gorgeous dresses at the end. The big winner of the evening, though, was Altuzarra’s first official handbag. A beautiful saddle back with thickly braided strap, we anticipate that editors of every stripe will be touting that piece around next season.

Moncler’s Valentine’s Surprise

Those who were brave enough to head to Brooklyn Navy Yard for the Moncler Grenoble presentation were not disappointed. The luxury outerwear brand had created a set that consisted of a giant heart-shaped box that resembled a box of chocolates. Just like Forrest Gump says, “you never know what you’re going to get,” and for each individual square two models came through the installation on a little podium in a different extravagant après ski look. At the end, once all the models had appeared, they kissed just to remind us that love was in the air.

Celebs Give Back on Valentine’s Day

Our own Joe Zee walked the Fashion for Relief runway yesterday with June Ambrose! And that’s not all. Naomi Campbell’s annual catwalk, which benefitted the Ebola Survival Fund, also drew Mary J. Blige, Empire’s Bryshere Y. Gray, Tyson Beckford, Kelly Rutherford, Nene Leakes, Paris Hilton, and Rosario Dawson as well. Though he didn’t strut the runway, Bieber made an appearance backstage. Way to support, dude!

Meet the Babyghost

The indie label Babyghost (which is designed Qiaoran Huang, and Josh Hupper who have worked at Diane von Furstenbeg and Thakoon) revealed its muse yesterday. The line’s stylist is also supermodel, Xiao Wen, is the actual “Babyghost,” or at least, that’s the nickname that designers have given her. The collection, inspired by the Hotel Home House in London, and how constant traveling means your clothes are your only home, was dotted with details like skeleton keys, and embroidered hotel numbers – including the number 16, the room number where Oscar Wilde died – a slight macabre touch for an otherwise thoroughly wearable collection.
