Kristen Wiig Is Khaleesi, Takes Her Late Night Appearances Really Seriously
Kristen Wiig was supposed to appear on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night to promote her new movie Welcome to Me, but Daenerys Targaryen showed up instead. The comedienne came in character as Khaleesi wearing a platinum blonde wig—braids and all—sporting a very Game of Thrones-inspired dress (fake cleavage and all) and a dragon on her shoulder.
The Saturday Night Live alum’s version of the Mother of Dragons actually revealed a lot of backstory that you don’t get from just watching the HBO show. Like, did you know that Khaleesi, which means Queen, is actually named Karen? Or that she lives in a dome in the forest that her dragons helped her build? Or that her sidekick fire breather’s name is Karl? Also, her favorite food is meat, she loves long skirts, and in her spare time she likes to cast spells (but isn’t a witch) and does stand up comedy strictly about rocks and swords. But, the most revelatory nugget was that dragons have landing issues at the airport. America!
This isn’t the first time the funny lady has impersonated someone on a Jimmy Fallon show. In July 2013, when he was still the host of Late Night, she appeared as Michael Jordan in a bald cap, #23 Chicago Bulls jersey, and Jordan sneakers. The duo talked about the legend’s career as an NBA All-Star and Champion, famous basketball friends including Larry Bird and Kobe Bryant, and even baseball (who could forget that mid-life crisis?).
In February 2014, Wiig as Harry Styles was the celebrity guest on The Tonight Show. In a black suit, white tanks, Chelsea boots, layered necklaces, lots of leather bracelets, and a floppy wig, the interview with the not as dreamy One Direction member was filled with singing, dancing, and the obvious hair questions.
Who will Wiig show up as next? Only time will tell but it’s definitely time for a Target Lady resurrection.
