Kylie Jenner is mad… Max, that is. Appearing on the cover of Teen Vogue this month, the 17-year-old was shot in the desert in a Mad Max meets Coachella”-themed shoot.

Fashion magazine editorials tend to be fantastical and often unrealistic, placing their subjects in settings out of their comfort zones and in unexpected looks. Jenner’s is no exception. On the cover, her face is natural—for her—sporting just lip gloss, mascara, and light eyeliner. Her hair is full of extensions (typical) and pulled up in a beehive. She’s wearing a khaki button-down shirt with a simple Valentino necklace and an arm of Cartier bracelets, somewhat resembling a normal teenager, albeit one with a lot of money (that stack of 8 bangles is at the least, and I’m saying bare minimum here, $50,000.)

Yes, glossy spreads transport and transform individuals, but the real question is why, in the middle of the desert on a shoot that’s based on badass women who never shower and sport dirt all of their faces as a point of pride because they’re too busy dealing with cars and mechanics, does Jenner (or Teen Vogue for that matter) not get more serious with the theme? She’s too Coachella circa 2015, in which the festival is all about the fashion and not about spending time with friends in Indio, California, taking in music together.

Let’s see Jenner with a buzz cut, sweat all over her face, and dust caked in between every crack of her skin. She’s so overdone all the time (seriously, those overdrawn lips are too much). She admitted to the magazine that she never really wears makeup unless she needs to (lie) because when she does do her makeup, she likes to really do her makeup. “So I’m never going to spend just 20 minutes, you know? A good night out is, like, two and a half hours for full makeup, curling hair, whatever. I love false lashes—individuals, strips, extensions.“

It would be refreshing to see her be a kid for once, instead of dressing just like her 30-something sisters. Even *they* were kids once—because at 17, that’s still exactly what she is.
