Lilly Pulitzer Creates Tribute Pattern for Little Girl Who Passed Away
Lilly Pulitzer is honoring a little girl who passed away from a brain tumor with her own unique print.
Caroline “Peach” Kanis, 9, passed away on March 18 due to an inoperable tumor on her brain stem called DIPG. The Holland, Mich., girl was nicknamed “Peach” by her loved ones because she “possessed a temperament of ineffable sweetness,” according to her obituary. “Peach forbade us to cry under penalty of a $.25 fine; she was not afraid, never complained, and declared, ‘we must never be angry, and we must never have regrets.’ She had gone blind in one eye and deaf in one ear and never mentioned it. With broken hearts we do not say goodbye, but ‘see you soon.’”
The little girl was also a fan of Lilly Pulitzer’s classic colorful prints, and the brand designed a peachy pattern in her name. “For a Lilly Girl who touched our hearts,” wrote the brand on its Facebook and Instagram pages on March 24. “Today we’re celebrating the life of Caroline Kanis, nicknamed ‘Peach’ by her loved ones because of her sweetness.”

Caroline’s loved ones commented on the social media posts by writing sentiments such as, “Your dresses were scattered thru the church this morning; it was a beautiful sight during a sad time,” and, “We had the privilege of knowing Caroline and her sweet family. She brightened the life of everyone she met.” People also requested that Caroline’s print be immortalized on clothing.
Yahoo Beauty could not reach a representative from Lilly Pulitzer or Caroline’s parents Michael and Tina Kanis for more detail. However, it’s the second time the brand has honored a late fan. In 2016, Raven Little White, a 16-year-old from North Carolina who died after slipping off a boat and drowning in a lake, was given her own purple-blue-and-green print. Raven’s loved ones attended her funeral wearing Lilly Pulitzer designs.
