Louboutin Redefines ‘Nude’ with New Shoe Colorways
For pretty much ever, the word ‘nude,’ when used to describe a color, has been problematic. Though it’s supposed to refer to anything flesh-toned, it has, traditionally, described a shade close to beige—making it anything but actual “nude” for most of the people in the world.
Footwear mogul Christian Louboutin finally broke the mold in 2013, when he released a capsule collection of ‘nude’ pumps in five different shades of skin-like hues. They were a massive success, and in spite of their high pricetag of $625, they flew off the shelves.
Now, The Cut reports that Louboutin is bringing back his Nudes in varying shapes—one of those being a sleek, pointy-toed heel, resembling the ‘Pigalle’—and even adding two new “nude” colors, to boot.
“There are two colors that I’m missing the range of in the middle,“ said Louboutin. “In the next year, we will be at seven total skin tones.” That’s amazing news for women of all skin tones, who long for elongated legs (and can afford Loubs, that is).
Of course, there’s one color that won’t be getting any alterations: Louboutin’s signature red sole. That’s not going anywhere.
