Meghan Markle and Prince Harry hold hands during first official appearance together
Well, that didn’t take long. No, wait, it took forever! But at last, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have finally stepped out together in public, and not separated by dozens of dignitaries in stadium seats. The prince and the Suits star held hands as they walked to a wheelchair tennis match at the Invictus Games in Toronto on Monday. Then they proceeded to sit together.

In a video of the couple leaving the stadium, the couple’s seen walking swiftly and with purpose while waving at a few fans, but they don’t for a second loosen the grip on each other’s hands.
They were carefully casual in their dress, as well: Markle wore a white button-down and light blue jeans, and carried a simple brown leather tote that matched her flats. Harry was in an Invictus Games polo and dark blue pants. If you want to read into things, notice Markle’s shirt stylishly half-tucked, plus the hole and cutoff hem of her jeans. Is she reminding the world that she’s not a princess yet?
Even though the couple, and royal family staff, had acknowledged their relationship status last year, Saturday’s opening ceremony of the Invictus Games was the first time they’d attended a public event together. They were previously only snapped by paparazzi on unofficial nights out. Fans of this love story were disappointed by the fact that it was Melania Trump, not Markle, at Harry’s side on that occasion, though that was a seating arrangement dictated by protocol.
On Monday, they were free to sit together and take in the match between Australia and New Zealand, according to People. They stood and talked to other spectators between sets. More important, they leaned into each other to talk during the game, setting off much swooning online.

This, coupled with the (unconfirmed) report from Us Weekly that Harry introduced Markle to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, has everyone on high alert for an engagement announcement. In the meantime, keep enjoying those jeans, Meghan!
