Melania Trump Is Going to Meet Prince Harry
While President Trump is often the subject of controversy when he travels to other countries, First Lady Melania Trump is usually considered a highlight of the trip, getting a rare glimmer of good press for the White House. And now, Melania is heading on her first trip abroad by herself, and she’ll even get to meet royalty along the way.
According to a news release from the White House, the first lady will lead the United States delegation at the Invictus Games in Toronto, which start September 23. The games, which were founded in 2014 by Prince Harry, have hundreds of wounded servicemen and women from 17 countries compete in sports like wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, and even powerlifting. There will be 90 American athletes competing in this year’s games.
According to CNN, Melania is carrying on a tradition of first ladies attending the Games, since Michelle Obama attended the 2016 games in Orlando. The first lady issued a statement about her upcoming trip:
“I was heartened by the great success of the inaugural Invictus Games that took place in London in 2015, and the second games in Orlando, Florida last year. In just two short years, the Invictus Games have allowed thousands of injured and wounded servicemen and women from many different countries to participate in adaptive sports competitions – something that should be lauded and supported worldwide. I am honored by the opportunity to represent our country at this year’s games.”
USA Today notes that Melania will meet Prince Harry during her trip, and there’s even a chance she’ll meet Meghan Markle, Harry’s girlfriend, because she films Suits in Toronto. All Melania’s spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, would say was “stay tuned.”
