As Donald Trump’s Campaign Turns (Sorta) Serious, Melania Trump’s Working to Look (Sorta) First-Lady-Like

Since June, rational America has assured itself that Donald Trump’s campaign is a joke. Dismissed as pure entertainment, it was both too soon and too insane to be taken seriously. But now, as the year closes out, the situation’s turned from hysterical to horrifying. And as he moves ever closer to the nomination, the press isn’t the only one starting to take him more seriously. So, it would seem, is his wife.

Where she once favored black leather, red lace, and tight white dresses, 45-year-old Melania Trump has recently assembled a wardrobe full of calm, neutral shades to take on the road while her husband  strikes fear into the heart of humans across the globe campaigns for president of the United States of America. Think layers of ivory with soft pink and classic camel coats, accessorized with Chanel — always Chanel — and ladylike pumps.

Like when Carrie Bradshaw dated the campaigning comptroller who wanted to pee on her in the shower (shout out to John Slattery), Melania Trump’s obviously looking to the first ladies of yesteryear for inspiration. If she continues on this path, there’s a good chance she’ll be wearing a pillbox hat by the time we reach the final (thank God) GOP debate.
