Model Met With Shaming After Sharing Post-Baby Body Selfie

Just one month after having a baby, model Erin McNaught is back to posting bikini photos on Instagram. The former Miss Universe Australia showed off her already back to flat stomach with a mirror selfie. “4 weeks PP [postpartum] and I’m starting to get my stomach back!” the 32-year-old wrote. “Aside from lots of walking and eating healthily, I’ve been doing loads of pelvic floor and transverse abdominus exercises. Still no traditional ab work though which is driving me crazy! #bodyafterbaby”

While she got plenty of praise — many calling it inspiration to lose weight themselves — from her followers, others were not so kind. “If you’re a new mum and this is what’s important to you…you’re doing it wrong #priorities,” gclovin commented on the post. Others exclaimed “wtf,” and some asked, “How the hell is that possible?”

But McNaught isn’t the only new mother — or parent to any aged child for that matter — that has been shamed for their physiques. Norwegian Caroline Berg gained international attention last year after she posted a mirror photo of herself in lingerie showing off her stomach just days after giving birth. “I feel so empty, and still not … 4 days after birth,” she captioned the photo. The then 26-year-old was met with lots of criticism from people around the world. And Heidi Klum, Adrianna Lima, Doutzen Kroes, Lilly Aldridge, and more models and celebrities have all bounced back post-baby to appear on a runway or red carpet and have faced backlash.

What all these women have in common is that they’ve faced cyberbullying and online hate from Internet trolls. Yes, they’re superhuman in that their bodies are basically elastic, but that’s no reason to shame them for it. In fact, no matter what someone’s size, they shouldn’t have to deal with being put down based on their size.
