Kanye West’s New York Fashion Week show was always going to be unique - and as usual, he’s caused plenty of controversy in its run up.

This year, Kanye staged his show on Roosevelt Island in the East River, and kicked off with an unconventional start at 4:49pm instead of the scheduled 3pm slot.

And this two-hour wait in the New York heat understandably took its toll on the models - as they attempted to stand completely still as part of a performance art piece, they were apparently ‘dropping like flies’.

Choreographed by Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft, the piece consisted of models in underwear assembled into rows along a huge runway.

But the heat was simply too much for many of them, who were photographed crouching on the grass and had to be given water by onlookers.

One journalist at the event commented: “Is this the show? Waiting until the models collapse one by one?#YeezySeason4 #NYFW Am I complicit? What’s going on!”

Another Tweeter said: “They’re still standing at Yeezy. Some are sitting. That’s it.”

The photos make it pretty clear that this wasn’t the occasional occurrence - you can see entire lines of women sitting in the grass.

It wasn’t just those standing that struggled to perform, either, as several had difficulties walking down the runway in their high-heeled footwear - model Amina Blue even kicked off her perspex Yeezy heels mid walk.

To be honest, who can blame her?
