Katy Perry Sides With Nicki Minaj, Calls Taylor Calls Swift's Argument "Ironic"

UPDATE:Katy Perry joined in on the Nicki Minaj versus Taylor Swift feud on Wednesday, tweeting that the she finds the “Bad Blood” singer’s sentiment “ironic.”

“Finding it ironic to parade the pit women against other women argument about as one unmeasurably capitalizes on the take down of a woman…,” Perry wrote. Minaj favorited it. The “Fireworks” artist then added another name into the mix: “The real travesty is where is the shine for #BBHMMVideo when VMA eligibility period was 7/7/14-7/1/15 & that gem dropped 7/1… @MTV,” she said of Rihanna’s new music video.

*You might think that Nicki Minaj would be satisfied with and excited about the two MTV Video Music Awards nominations she received for her song “Anaconda” Tuesday: One for Best Female Video, and the other, Best Hip Hop Video. But you’d be mistaken.

The rapper took to Twitter the same afternoon to voice her frustration over not being nominated in two other categories that she felt the raunchy video also deserved, for Best Choreography and Video of the Year.

To add insult to injury (in her eyes, anyway), the video for Minaj’s song with Beyonce, “Feeling Myself,” received no nominations.

“Thank you for my nominations. ,” Minaj tweeted at MTV. “Did Feeling Myself miss the deadline or…?”

Things escalated when she spoke of the cultural impact “Anaconda” had, and insinuated that, were she a different “kind” of artist, her work would have received more praise. Eek.

It didn’t end there. Minaj then referenced “’other’ girls” who, like Minaj, had broken records with their videos, which “celebrate women with very slim bodies,” and wound up getting nominated:

She explained that her main motivation for the rant was race-related.

But the Internet saw those particular tweets as a jab against Taylor Swift — and, unsurprisingly so, considering the fact that she, aside from Minaj’s gal pal Bey, is the only other female artist nominated for Video of the Year. (Plus, it’s hard to deny that the vast majority of the women in her vid for “Bad Blood” err on the thin side.)

And evidently, Swift did too. Not generally one to engage in public arguments with fellow celebs, the typically sweet pop star — who’s famously had her own embattled history with the VMAs — logged online and fired back at Minaj with a particularly empowered feminist message.

To which Minaj was all, Say WHA?, before pushing Swift to lend her voice to Minaj’s plight.

Which, I don’t know… I’m not totally buying that she wasn’t referencing Swift in her initial tweets. But whatever, maybe she just realized that starting beef with the often-rabid Swifty minions really wasn’t worth the hassle and death threats after all.

Either way, Swift seemed to accept Minaj’s explanation, and, in true Tay-Tay form, publicly invited her to join her ever-burgeoning #girlsquad.

So, #CrisisAverted? It’s still pretty unclear. After criticizing “white media” for allegedly pitting her and Swift against one another, Minaj went on to retweet several feisty comments directed at Swift from some of the rapper’s fans.

Ooooh man. Could this heated situation between Swift and Minaj end up resulting in “Bad Blood Pt. 2,” or will Minaj accept Swift’s onstage peace offering? We’ll just have to wait and see when the VMAs air August 30th.
