Nicole Kidman Has Sleepovers With ‘Big Little Lies’ Co-Stars
The finale of Big Little Lies was an emotional, twisted doozy, and an affirmation of deep female friendship that withstands insane odds.
Warning! There are spoilers to come.
Now-widowed Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman) closed out the show cavorting on the beach with the other moms. For the first time, we saw her showing actual skin, now that her abusive husband is dead after a fortuitously timed push down the stairs. Gone are the bruise-concealing cardigans and sweaters, replaced by shorts and a tank top.
She’s in the sand with Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern — plus the youngsters who play their assorted offspring. The bond between the actresses is real. So real, in fact, that it has passed down a generation. Kidman, a mother of four, is raising her daughters Sunday, 8, and Faith, 6, with her second husband, Keith Urban. And her kids have become friends with a few of the children on the show — namely Chloe Coleman, who plays. …
“My children are close to the children in the show. They’re coming over to have a sleepover Saturday night. Darby [Camp] and Chloe [Coleman] are very good friends with my daughters,” Kidman tells Yahoo Style, referring to two other girls from the series, during an interview done before the finale.
Camp played Witherspoon’s daughter, Chloe, and Coleman was Kravitz’s offspring, Skye.
In fact, it’s the maternal instinct to protect her on-screen twin boys that was the driving force for Celeste when it came to finally, after years of beatings, deciding to leave Perry (Alexander Skarsg?rd). She realized that her son Max had been bullying a little girl at school, mimicking the behavior she had convinced herself he never saw at home.
“I wanted to show Celeste as ultimately a mother, and the desire to protect her children is her deepest motivator. When she realizes it’s affecting her children — because she believes it’s not — that’s the thing that can motivate her to leave. That’s what so sad. When it’s about herself, she can’t. We should love ourselves enough that we do it for ourselves,” says Kidman.
