Not Just for Little Girls: The New Naughty Mary Jane

Mary Janes have always had a certain innocence about them. This season, however, designers are injecting the Sunday best staple with a bit of an edge. For his mod-inspired collection at Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane introduced a champagne-colored, glittery crystal version, which feels more Edie Sedgwick than Eloise. Miu Miu created a sophisticated iridescent style while Simone Rocha added a heavy gold chain to the classic black slip-on for a punk rock look. There are even bolder looks like Tabitha Simmons’s blood red version and Empirio Armani’s pair emblazoned with studs. Suffice to say—you probably won’t be paring these with your white-laced socks and Peter Pan blouse this time around.
