#NYFW Trend: Scalloped Edges Take Hems To The Next Level

Trademark Fall 2015.

There’s been a hyper-feminine vibe running through the fall collections. Underneath the bits of 70’s, and the bits of grunge, designers have abandoned straight-edges, and embraced the craft scissors of their childhood. The look, which may have had its start in recent Valentino collections, has now made its way to New York, where designers have applied it to a variety of different looks. At Trademark, designers Pookie and Louisa Burch have used it to give their minimal, austere clothes, a bit of embellishment, without having to resort to beading or anything too over-the-top. At Adam Selman, who was inspired by John Water’s Female Trouble, the rick-rack-like edges were a lil’ but kitschy and a lil’bit rock n’ roll, just the way Selman (and Waters) like it. Meanwhile at Honor, Giovanna Randall created a super girly paradise, complete with princess capes, rainbow tights, and candy-hued sandals. Anna Sui loves the 60’s, and at her show, a burnt sienna suede dress got its waves from appliquéd water droplet-like shapes, perfect for an outdoor festival. Leave the straight edges behind, let’s get wavy!
