One Direction: 5 Years of Dreamy Looks
Santa Claus is coming to town early this year and giving every tween, teen, and even a lot of adults (although only few readily admit so much) the number one thing on their wish list this year: One Direction. The British boy band, whose new album, Four, recently came out, have been singing their hearts out on television sets around the world promoting singles such as “Night Changes” and “Ready to Run.” While Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson made
On Tuesday, a docu-style show will give a behind-the-scenes look at their latest tour and recording their latest hits. Leading up to this TV special, Yahoo Style took a look back into the 1D archive and tracked the boys’ transformation from their early days on the X Factor to their recent performance on Saturday Night Live. In a few short years they’ve grown from young kids yet to hit puberty to almost men with their own distinct styles. They’ve changed from a cohesive unit, dressing in the N’SYNC and Backstreet Boys archetypal matching way to distinct individuals with personal tastes. Breaking away from the coordination, Horan, 21, prefers street clothes and seems to prefer sneakers and tank tops no matter the occasion. Malik has ditched his signature ice cream scoop cowlick in recently in favor of a slick-backed ponytail, more in line with the 21-year-old’s darker persona. Liam Payne, also 21, on the other hand, is usually always suited up, appearing as the most mature man in the mix. Styles, 20, metamorphosed into a dude with a hipster’s dream closet, always seen with the latest enviable hat shape covering up his long untamed locks and leaving just one too many buttons detached exposing a glimpse of his chest (proving he’s not a boy not yet a man). At 22, the oldest of the bunch, Tomlinson’s style is ironically the least developed. Just ditching the Justin Bieber comb over for a only slightly more manageable ‘do, turtlenecks seem to be his signature as of late.
