People Really Love to Listen to John Legend & Ed Sheeran at Weddings
What do wedding bells sound like? If you’ve gotten married in the past two years, odds are they sound like John Legend or Ed Sheeran. Spotify released a list that reveals the most popular wedding songs, culled from over 400,000 wedding playlists and the answers probably won’t surprise you. The most popular first dance song is Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” (It is unclear if couples are also learning the choreography that Sheeran performed in the video —Dancing With the Stars mania sweeps the nation!)
Meanwhile the most popular song at weddings in general is John Legend’s “All of Me.” (If your first dance is to this song, does this mean some of the John and Chrissy cutest-relationship-ever-vibes rub off on the newlyweds? You never know!) But the most popular artist might actually be Jason Mraz, whose two songs “Lucky,” featuring Colby Caillat, and “I’m Yours,” figure prominently on both lists (this part is surprising). Rounding out the list are songs by Bruno Mars, The Lumineers, and Bright Eyes.
Etta James’ “At Last,” and Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” are the only non-contemporary songs that figured in the list, holding the number two and three spots for most popular first dance songs.
Whatever happened to Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One,” or Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together,” which was the top wedding song in 2005. Have the guys really overtaken the world of romantic songs? Is this what happens when Taylor Swift goes Pop? At least we still have Adele (whose “Make You Feel My Love,” is on the eighth spot in the first-dance category). We will always have Adele.
