Peter Copping Presents His First Resort Collection for Oscar de la Renta
This year has been a series of firsts for Oscar de la Renta’s new(ish) artistic director, Peter Copping. Last February, he showed his first ready-to-wear collection for the brand, April marked his bridal debut, and yesterday, in the label’s storied atelier, he presented his first resort offering.
A bit of background: the resort/cruise collection comes out at toward the end of each calendar year and is supposed to inspire us to go on tropical vacations! This season Copping was taking his well-heeled ladies to Punta Cana, where de la Renta spent his holidays when he was not in New York.
The designer seemed happy to honor the namesake’s Dominican roots. If the first ready-to-wear collection was considered somber (and rightfully so), this was a step toward reviving the joie de vivre which has always been associated with the brand. There was an infusion the infusion of color (marine bule, magenta, and marigold) plus some fun and flirty silhouettes that will certainly be favored by their younger clients (including Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift).
Here we compiled our favorite looks from the show.
