Pink Shuts Down Body Shamers With Positive Message

Pink has never cared what you think. Since she first rose to fame more than a decade ago, she’s been one of the more progressive popstars, a sort of feminist punk rock option for anyone coming of age circa Britney Spears. She might have grown up, got married, and had a kid, but she certainly hasn’t lost her edge. Over the weekend, after attending a cancer benefit to support a friend, she noticed some social media users criticizing her weight. And, in typically positive Pink fashion, she responded to her body shamers:

“While I admit that that dress didn’t photograph as well as it did in my kitchen, I will also admit that I felt very pretty,” she continued. “In fact, I feel beautiful. So, my good and concerned peoples, please don’t worry about me. I’m not worried about me. And I’m not worried about you either:)… I am perfectly fine, perfectly happy, and my healthy, voluptuous and crazy strong body is having some much deserved time off. Thanks for your concern. Love, cheesecake."
And she didn’t stop the defense there. Not only does she accept herself the way she is, her 4-year-old daughter, Willow Hart, loves her mother no matter what.

Pink, whose given name is Alecia Moore, also added her husband’s view of her figure.

After posting her own winning retaliation, the 35-year-old singer expanded her campaign to include all mothers who face disparaging remarks in regards to their post-baby weight. Various women who commended the “Just Give Me a Reason” artist for her comments received personalized Twitter interactions.
While social media can be a cesspool for negativity, it’s also a two-way street. Hostility takes place—often—yet there are also individuals such as Pink with loud voices to counteract the ugly.
