Plunging Necklines & Spooky Masks at amfAR’s Gala in Honor of Ryan Murphy
LA is really turning it out this week. On Thursday night, Hollywood’s A-list—Julia Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger—honored Ryan Murphy at the amfAR gala. Murphy, the creator of Glee, Scream Queens, and American Horror Story, was surrounded by a loving support squad thrilled to celebrate his success. “Is there any recognition Ryan’s not deserving of?” asked Sarah Paulson. “You could give him an orange cone in the middle of the road for best parking in my opinion.”
Before Roberts presented Murphy with his award, the red carpet welcomed a steady stream of impeccable looks. Paltrow wore a white Ralph & Russo couture gown with massive Harry Winston diamonds; Chloe Sevigny was in SS16 Gucci, and Kruger slayed in a light pink slip gown from Carolina Herrera. Jaime King said of her Balmain, “I can barely move in it, but that’s okay. It’s worth it,” while Zendaya said she chose her DSquared2 look because “[I’m] really into mixing men’s wear and kind of edging up feminine, blurring the lines a little bit.”
Inside, Lady Gaga took to the stage for a whole hour in an Old Hollywood ensemble she could’ve been stolen from Elizabeth Taylor’s closet. Surprisingly, her biggest fan appeared to be Kelsey Grammer, who said, “I think she’s really creative and I love her videos and I like her songs.” Hopefully, he liked the ‘60s-era jazz set she performed, too. Gaga even contributed to the $3.1 million raised throughout the night to find a cure for AIDS by 2020 by buying a photograph of Elizabeth Taylor flipping the bird.
The party went late, which worked out well for Paulson, “I’m working tomorrow, indeed but that’s okay. I’m playing a heroin addict.”
