Across the board, female celebrities had a spectacular 2015. Adele broke sales records with her new album, Amy Schumer proved comedy for women brings in huge audiences, and Serena Williams started and ended the year at No. 1. And yet, these remarkable women made nearly as many headlines for their involvement in one of this year’s loudest social media conversations: body shaming.
Like Schumer and Williams, body shaming also had an unprecedented year, led by some online commenters’ take-no-prisoners criticism. Regardless of how many albums they sold, hit movies they made, or championships they won, these female powerhouses—and plenty of others like them—had to deal with strangers judging their bodies.
