Rihanna Channels Her Inner Dancehall Queen in Her New Video for ‘Work’
We’re all bummed that the weekend is over, but Rihanna just brought the party back to us this fine Monday by dropping her music video for the first single off her Anti album, “Work.” The world would have been adequately thrilled if she came out with just one video, but because Queen Rih is so benevolent and generous, she blessed us with a double play, including two different versions of the vid. We are not worthy.
The singer lets her Bajan roots shine on this dancehall-inspired track, so of course for the first video, the Tommy Hilfiger-clad singer sets the scene at a good ‘ol fashioned Caribbean bashment with all the fittings – booze, herbal refreshments, a DJ, fishnet-clad women doing splits in the middle of the dance floor, and… Drake in an OVO sweatsuit. And if you were wondering, yes, Drizzy is giving us awkward, semi-predatory uncle vibes in this one, but such is the standard for the rapper, particularly when women are wining and grinding up on him.
The second video is more low-key. We see Rihanna, clad in a sparkly, nipple baring see through tank top and an itty bitty denim skirt, rolling her waistline like an old pro as Drake watches on in peak creepy uncle mode from the couch. They canoodle and Riri sings and dances on a grateful-looking Drake.
In a word, it is a delight and it’s always great to see Rihanna repping her culture. Watch the video above and tell us if it doesn’t make you want to leave work right now for a dancehall fête.
