Ripped Butt Jeans Are Back and They're Selling for $300 a Pair
Just in time for the coldest months of the year in most parts of the U.S. comes a trend that will literally have us freezing our cheeks off. Designer denim brand Re/Done has debuted the “A** Rip Jean,” which is exactly what it sounds like: a pair of jeans with a slash at the base of the butt. In fact, there is an entire “A** Rip Collection,” in case you were curious. Looks like it’s time to resume that squats routine.
The collection is comprised of restored vintage Levi’s jeans, and the brand’s current stock seems to all be high-rise. Because the jeans are vintage, they’re one of a kind, but the site includes a selection of sizes. Oh, and each pair is $290 before taxes and shipping.
Celebrities love them, of course. Kendall Jenner has been spotted in them, and Alessandra Ambrosio was caught rocking a pair — to name just a few. But it was another Jenner — Kylie — who had the gall (and the assets) to bare her bum in a pair of strategically ripped jeans that revealed underbutt on both sides. She debuted the look in an Instagram shot more than four months ago — and we wouldn’t be shocked if the 1.2 million likes the photo received inspired Re/Done’s new collection.

And to think there once was a time when, at the sight of rips in the backsides of our jeans, we actually thought to mend them! Pshh. What were we thinking?
On its website, though, Re/Done does say that the butt rips are sewn at the edges so they won’t rip further. The brand uses Levi’s jeans from the ’90s, and restores them in Los Angeles. They recommend you “Buy your usual jean size — if they feel tight out of the box, it doesn’t mean they are too small, it just means you need to spend a little quality time breaking them in.”
Into the look but not the price? You can always DIY a pair of butt-split high-rise jeans — aka mom jeans — yourself with the help of an online tutorial. You might even become obsessed. However you achieve your butt-rip jeans, be careful where you sit.
This especially goes for ice-covered park benches. Or the interior of your car after it’s been parked in direct sunlight for three hours. Or … well, you get the picture.
