Ruby Rose’s Nips Were Reportedly Published in a Magazine Without Permission

Don’t make the mistake of assuming Ruby Rose isn’t pro free the nipple. But know this: she does have a problem with those that free her nipples without consent. Untitled magazine reportedly did just that when it printed images from a shoot done earlier in the year with photographer Dani Brubaker showing the Orange Is the New Black star’s bare chest and posing in a skin revealing thong, despite the fact that she claims to have asked to be appropriately covered up.
The publication featured the images with the Australian DJ and actress in its September 2015 Girl Power issue, which selected “some of the most inspirational women on the radar today across the arenas of fashion, film, music, art, business, politics, tech and sports.” Lizzy Kaplan, Charli XCX, Rebecca Ferguson, Naomie Harris, and others were featured as well. But according to Rose’s Instagram, the photos were not only unapproved but also sold to other outlets and she urged followers to take action. “Please if you are a fan of mine boycott this issue or you are buying into greedy, exploitative propaganda,” she wrote in a caption alongside the above image. “I have plenty of other shoots I’m proud of with professionals coming up it’s not needed in your collection.”
In response to her outcry, the mag tweeted, “One of the most important issues of today is #equality. We would never publish unapproved photos. We do not believe in exploitation.” The Huffington Post spoke with Untitled’s editor in chief Indira Cesarine, who said she was saddened by the allegations.“She’s fully dressed, though you can see a hint of a nipple through the shirt because of the flash of the camera. The magazine was never actually notified that there was a problem with these photos,” she said, also noting that Rose willingly participated in the shoot and the magazine never received any complaints from her or her team. Cesarine denied that she even had the rights to sell the images and didn’t profit off of them.“After she has done full frontal nudity on her show, these images are tame compared to what she has done on television,” she said.
Unsatisfied with this excuse, Rose, who is engaged to Phoebe Dahl, asked for an apology. “I’m in shock at how cheap and petty this is,” she added. “When a simple deletion and apology was all it should have been.”
