Notoriously press-averse singer Sia, has landed the cover of Interview magazine, marking this the first time the she has been photographed for a fashion magazine. In a conversation with the great Kristen Wiig, who also performed as “one of the Sias” during this year’s Grammy Awards, the singer/songwriter randomly speaks of herself in the third person (“Just recently some people published 11 photos of Sia’s face. It’s a bummer for me because it’s going to elevate my profile and make me more recognizable”), tells us why she thinks aliens are real (“I have seen the [former] Canadian minister of defense discuss the fact that he knows that the American government is working with five different species of aliens presently. Which is a real fucking mind-blower”), and why she decided to stop showing her face in public two years ago.

“I don’t look the same as I did when I used to have my photo taken. So I’m just trying to be one step removed,” she tells Wiig, “I’m 39, and I would like to be able to make great pop music for another 20 years. Creating a sort of inanimate blond bob and allowing other people to play the role of the pop singer, it affords me a little bit more freedom in terms of my expiration date.”

Photographed by Gregory Harris and styled by Elin Svahn, Sia wears an array of dazzling avant-garde designers like Viktor & Rolf, Junya Watanabe, Simone Rocha, and Alexander McQueen. The images are moody, and beautiful, just like Sia herself.
