That's a First: Anne Hathaway Wore Combat Boots With a Gown to a Gala
Which one of these things doesn’t belong: A gown, a gala, and Doc Marten-inspired boots? Trick question; they all belong, according to Anne Hathaway, and after Thursday night, we might agree.
The actress attended the 2016 Guggenheim International Gala in New York City wearing a sheer gown that featured leafy and floral appliqué, in addition to images of several animals like a crab that was cheekily placed on her chest. The frock was stunning albeit a little quirky. The short-sleeved garment was layered over a nude camisole and skirt, revealing just enough. It was floor length, but since it was sheer — and her shoes were so powerful — the piece gave a good look at what was on her feet. Shockingly, Hathaway completed her gala look with a chunky pair of black combat boots.
Combat boots at a black tie gala? That’s a first.
The Dior black glazed calfskin ankle boot offset her formal look consisting of the gown, a metallic box clutch, loose waves, and crimson lips. Maybe she was going for the dressed-down glam look, which would also explain the rope belt around her waist and minimalist thin black choker. Or maybe she was just running late and put on the first shoes she saw. Or maybe the pumps she picked out were killing her feet so she changed at the last minute.
Whatever reason, she gets major credit for braving this combination; it certainly reflects the down-to-earth personality this naturally sparkling starlet has.
