The Best Looks from Spring 2015 Haute Couture So Far
J’adore! The couture shows are in full swing in Paris, here are a few of my favorite looks thus far.
Was it a Midsummer’s Night Dream or did emoji flowers inspire Karl’s Chanel Haute Couture set? Lagerfeld brought out all of the classic couture elements again—amazing hats, complicated and delicate embroidery, and of course, the Chanel bride who was escorted by male models trailing her with flowers. As it should be!
Dior designer Raf Simons sent his girls out onto pink carpet in a 60s silhouette with printed plastic coats, luxurious jewel-encrusted gowns, and plastic thigh-high boots with Perspex heels. Perhaps a slight nod to Barbarella? A modern and futuristic collection with all the codes of traditional Dior couture, this show was a highlight.
From the top to the bottom, Schiaparelli was a killer collection. Wire-sculpted baseball caps and geometric halos made to look like a constellation were some of the stand out accessories. For the clothes it was all about the classic red-leather coat which featured a bow with laser-cut hearts at the back. We also have our eye on a black dress embroidered with stars upon multiple layers of tulle. The brand may have recently lost its creative director (Marco Zanini), but the house recovered nicely.
Florals, heavy embroidery, ruffles, and yards of fantastical tulle made up the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture show. Dainty pink gowns that resembled cotton candy were mixed with his signature floral embroideries and styled with black veils. The overall vibe offered was sweet and with a tinge of naughtiness.
