The Pharrell Effect: Hats On The Runway
Call it the Pharrell hat effect. For Spring 2015, several designers looked to the musician’s Arby meets “Buffalo Gals” topper for inspiration. At the always unconventional Thom Browne show, the designer showed ladies in fantastical creations that were part Mad Hatter, part fascinator: headgear was made into wire bags, oversized sun hats, and one was even made into a mini suit just like the one the model wore down the runway. Not to be outdone, Donna Karan showed statement making hats like oversized bowlers and top hats that perched on the models slicked back heads. While Australian designer Karen Walker showed exaggerated floppy beach hats, CFDA finalist Ryan Roche paired her lo fi fashion with sombrero style hats for bohemian cowboy look.
