These Couples Were So Committed to Halloween, They Got Married on Monday

Every wedding is a costume party, really — unless you’re the type who wears ball gowns and tuxedos on a regular basis. When you think of it that way, it’s not so strange that more and more couples are skipping the formal attire and going straight for macabre zombies, Victorian glam, and horse heads in Halloween-themed weddings. What is particularly impressive this year, however, is that a handful of couples took their love of the holiday so seriously, they chose to hold their ceremonies on Monday, Oct. 31, rather than over the weekend.

Raymond and Lori McCurdy of Windsor, Ontario, decorated a tent on their lawn with cobwebs, skulls, and a witch’s cauldron for their Monday wedding MC’d by Beetlejuice and photographed by the Grim Reaper, according to the Windsor Star. She was dressed in black with skull makeup and a spider web design buzzed into her hair; he wore a giant skull head. It was the culmination of a weekend in which they hosted a haunted house in their barn.

“We didn’t want anything traditional whatsoever,” Lori told the Star. “We’re different, we have fun all the time, so we didn’t want to try to be serious.”

That also appeared to be the sentiment of Samantha McClanahan and James Bradbury of South Bend, Ind., who got married on Monday night at Niles Scream Park in Niles, Mich. She wore a Wonder Woman dress, and he dressed as Deadpool for the ceremony, which took place in the open, where Halloween revelers passing by could watch.

“Out of the routine of ordinary life, something extraordinary has happened,” Kelly Jones, the ordained minister dressed as a biker, said during the ceremony, the Herald-Palladium reports.

There wasn’t a news crew on hand for the wedding of Nicole and Justino in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Monday, but thanks to Instagram, we learned just how into Halloween the bride’s family got this year.

“I’m probably one of the luckiest girls in the world with one of the most amazing dads ever,” Nicole wrote. “Walked me down the aisle, performed one of the best ceremony’s (sic) ever and secretly hired a flash mob to come dance to thriller.”

Social media delivered other tales of Halloween weddings, like this one featuring two brides in black, and a Vegas wedding that took an oddly equine turn.

It’s great to see those couples with friends and family who didn’t mind giving up their trick-or-treating for a romantic costume party. We don’t want to discount many, many more who took advantage of the whole weekend for Halloween-themed celebrations. That includes Saturday’s high-society bash in Brooklyn, where Argentinian TV journalist Nieves Zuberbühler married beer heir Julio Santo Domingo III. According to Page Six, the guests included Princess Caroline of Monaco and polo star Nacho Figueras, and many were also in costume for the occasion. Santo Domingo was a Musketeer, but Zuberbühler opted for a wedding gown.

If socialites and princesses approve Halloween weddings now, there’s no turning back. Sorry, traditionalists!
