Tinder Reimbursed a Woman $400 After She Missed a Flight Because of a Good Date
From awful date to forever matches to one-night stands, Tinder has — since its 2012 inception — revolutionized the way millennials date. While the app might have settled into a reputation as a hookup app, a recent story from a Tinder user is proving that those looking for love shouldn’t give up on swiping right just yet.
Tinder user Erin Kim had such a good Tinder date that she wrote the company a thank you letter, saying the date went so well that she totally missed a scheduled flight. Tinder stepped up to the plate and reimbursed Kim $400 for missing her plane.
Kim tells Yahoo Style, “I’ve traveled abroad quite a bit, and Tinder has allowed me to get to experience other cultures through the eyes of the locals.”
Her letter lists a series of detailed thank yous for the wonderful experiences the app has allowed her. Kim writes, “There are endless ways Tinder can spark nightmares, but for me, Tinder has made a lot of magic. In the midst of the negative noise around online dating, I just want to say thank you to the app for the good — the humanity — it has in fact introduced into my life.”
From San Fransisco to Montreal, the native New Yorker says that the app has helped her grow as a person. She’s left her fears of being rejected — even once asking out a superhot barista — because of the confidence she gained via the men she’s matched with on the app.
One romance-filled night in Rome, Kim decided that her connection with her Italian Tinder match was worth staying an extra day, so she missed an already booked flight — for which she had to pay a $400 fee to reschedule.
Whoa – I wrote this thank you letter to Tinder on @Medium a month ago. Today @Tinder wrote me a letter back https://t.co/E6p61hRA2Y pic.twitter.com/KHiRFTKiuY

“I thought it was a joke when Tinder reached out after reading my letter,” Kim says. “I didn’t think they would actually reimburse me the money.”
Tinder was clearly moved by Kim’s letter and deposited the money straight to her bank account.

After three and a half years of wonderful experiences with the app, Kim has a message to those who have given up on the app: “Romance is still alive and well, you just have to lose the fears and go after what you want, and even if things don’t work out you will have learned something new — and that makes it all worth it.”
Her letter has received many comments from people who say Kim has inspired them to try online dating again.
A commenter wrote, “I met my awesome boyfriend on tinder and my life has never been the same, he’s literally the best I’ve ever had. So yes, love can truly be found in hopeless places.” Another commenter added, “I was downloading a dating app, but I didn’t have a good experience. Then I deleted it. I totally rejected dating app. One of my friends encouraged me to try again. Then I tried it. I met a good guy and we are dating now. There might be some creepy guys but also some good men to date. Yeah. Thank you dating app!”
And thanks Kim!
