There’s a specific way to do wear head-to-toe denim (AKA the Canadian tuxedo), otherwise you’ll just look like a big blue blur walking down the street. Here are some basic tips to get the look.

1. Contrast the washes. Don’t go straight stone wash or Japanese selvedge in one look.

2. Mix it up. You can switch up the fabrics like pairing a thin chambray shirt with a heavier raw denim bottom.

3. Stick to the denim color palette: If denim on denim is not your thing, pair a denim jacket with a black skirt or jeans with a navy blazer.

4. Try shape shifting. We all own the classics: jeans, button down snap shirt, jean jacket, but why not try new silhouettes? A long maxi skirt? A suit? Or even a parka?

5. Accessorize. Break up the single look with a stylish leather belt or a chunky scarf.

6. Know Your Body. No matter what’s on the runway, we all have a go to style that looks best on us. If you’re fuller figured, low rises tend to be the most flattering. For tall and petite ladies, a skinny jean is the way to go.

7. Fit, Fit, Fit. Don't be afraid to have your denim altered. From a simple hem to a tuck in the waist, it doesn’t have to break the bank. Any dry cleaner can do most jobs. But if you're extra picky or have a more complicated request, then try specialists like the Denim Doctors or Denim Therapy where they can even customize holes where you want them.
