The 2015 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show: A $2 Million Bra, Caitlyn Jenner, Angel Wings & Lots of Lingerie
Some might say the holiday season is the most wonderful time of the year, but the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is arguably even more magical. Once a year, the most genetically blessed women on the planet — otherwise known as Angels — parade down a runway in extravagant lingerie while some of the biggest musical acts (this year’s performers are Selena Gomez, The Weeknd, and Ellie Goulding, who will be filling in for Rihanna after she dropped out) serenade the lovely ladies as they walk on by.
The bras and underwear might be skimpy, showing off the models’s ridiculously fit figures — their restrictive diets and intense workouts could make an Olympic athlete cry — but the craftsmanship, and the rest of the work that it takes to put on the extravaganza, certainly is not. The iconic wings take months to create, with designers from Paris to Las Vegas collaborating on Swarovski-encrusted, feather-heavy, and metal framed props. One of them, the Fireworks Fantasy Bra, which is being worn by Lily Aldridge, costs more than $2 million and is covered in rubies, emeralds, sapphires, diamonds, and more precious gems.
Sure, the show might have its critics — the main complaint being that the thin women perpetuate impossible to meet body standards and can impact the way people perceive themselves — yet it’s kind of hard to see the negatives through the glitter, kisses, hearts, stars, and rainbows.
The show filmed on November 10, but won’t air on CBS until December 8.
