Why Everyone Is Talking About Robert Pattinson's New Girlfriend at New York Fashion Week

We can’t believe our own Joe Zee, a pop culture encyclopedia, hadn’t heard of FKA Twigs. The music of the part Jamaican, part Spanish British-born singer has become the unofficial anthem of New York Fashion Week playing at shows such as Prabal Gurung and Jason Wu. 

The 26-year-old’s album LP1—a hypnotic mash up of R&B, hip hop and British dance music—dropped last month.

Here ‘s a primer on fashion’s favorite new diva.

1. She was born Tahliah Barnett but she got her Twigs nickname because of the ways her bones cracked and popped when she danced.

2. Yep, she’s got moves- tap, ballet, hip hop. So good in fact that she has been a back up singer for Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran and appeared in a recent Jesse J video.

3. The fashion world loves her. She’s graced the cover of Dazed and Confused (shot by Inez and Vinoodh)  and ID magazines so far.

4. She may have started the wet baby bangs trend (seen at DKNY this week) with her  ID cover, where her slicked back baby hairs spelled out LOVE on her forehead.

5. And she’s getting some love from Hollywood as well.  She’s currently dating Twilight’s R Patz.
