Who's Gone Too Far: Bette Midler or Ariana Grande?

Twitter feuds are not unusual in the world of celebrity—Chris Brown v. Drake, Taylor Swift v. Diplo, and Kanye, well, he’s always engaged in some outrageous conflict. This week, a rather peculiar feud ignited between Ariana Grande and Bette Midler, who is nearly three times Grande’s age. The legendary performer called Ariana’s overtly sexual videos “silly beyond belief” in conversation with The Telegraph.

“It’s always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice,  a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch, looking so ridiculous… Maybe [her manager] tells them that’s what you’ve got to do. Sex sells,” said Midler.

In response to her comment, the 21-year old tweeted, “Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever they wanted without judgement! Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! Always a fan no matter what my love— all love here.” Milder responded with this follow-up tweet:

Midler has a point. There’s no denying Grande’s sex appeal. Just take a listen to her latest song, “Santa Tell Me,” which boasts of lyrics like, “Santa tell me if he really cares, ‘cause I can’t give it all away if he won’t be here next year… Oh I wanna have him beside me like ohOohOoh.” The flirt is feeling it, but that’s nothing new. Female singers have been cooing carols since the fifties.
