The ‘Magic’ Leggings Amy Adams Is Obsessed With
The wine flowed at the annual National Board of Review awards gala at Cipriani on 42nd Street in New York. The vibe was relaxed, maybe because winners were announced ahead of time, as always. Best picture went to the searing Manchester by the Sea, best actor to its star, Casey Affleck, and best supporting acting nods to Jeff Bridges (Hell or High Water) and Naomie Harris (Moonlight). The cast of Hidden Figures was hailed as best ensemble.
But even before the festivities started, best actress winner Amy Adams, critically lauded for her nuanced performance in Arrival, got things started with the mother of all interviews.
Let other stars launch fancy, posh lifestyle brands. Not Adams.
“Everything would be $5 and comfortable,” she joked.
That’s our kind of winner. In the past, Adams has praised the merits of stretch pants by Helmut Lang and reveals her new favorite: “I have new magic leggings.” The star says her choice is “Spanx!” — an accessible brand that, she says, “makes workout leggings that you can wear as leggings.”
Real, relatable, and impactful. Like her performance in Arrival, dare we say. “They’re a little shiny, but you know, in the world of leggings, they’re not too shiny. And they literally — it’s like five pounds gone!”
The Oscar nominee was clad in pre-fall Marchesa and has a finely honed sense of style. “I think dressing for these things, each dress sort of becomes a character to me. I’m able to step outside of my normal life and get to experience the life of a woman who wears this dress. So that’s always fun.”
In her speech, Adams thanked her spouse, Darren Le Gallo, and daughter, Aviana. “Because of your sacrifices and your willingness to travel around the world with me, I get to be in movies such as Arrival, and I get to have moments such as this,” she said.
The winner endearingly gushed about her “team,” exclaiming, “I love you guys so much!”
Right back at you, Miss Adams.
Not to be outdone, Oscar winner Octavia Spencer was ecstatic during her acceptance speech for Hidden Figures. The proud actress exclaimed, “Wow that’s great! My third! Not to brag or anything!” Spencer joked about being tipsy: “Sorry, too much wine. I don’t drink, so when I get to, it’s kind of fun.” After the crowd roared with laughter, the gracious actress said, “No, seriously, it’s an honor to have our work spotlighted tonight.”
