Willow Bay Wears a Rodarte Star Wars Gowns to the Oscars
The previous Fall/Winter New York Fashion Week, Rodarte’s inspiration was out of this world. Their dresses, which are usually unwearable in their over-embellishment and delicate intricate details, were screen printed with Star Wars stars C-3PO, Yoda, and Luke Skywalker. Gowns inspired by the space trilogy were a hit among’s fashion’s elite, appearing in many magazines, but their kookiness meant only the sartorial risk takers would ever wear it on the red carpet. Kirsten Dunst donned the Death Star space station version, but not until the Oscars, a year since the looks made their debut, did someone else dare to don a Laura and Kate Mulleavy creation again.
At Sunday’s Oscars, Willow Bay, a former daytime television anchor and the current director of the USC Annenberg School of Journalism, chose the Yoda Rodarte dress. The gown is super cheeky and very fashion-forward but it also might have some hidden meaning to it. Bay’s husband, Bob Iger, is the CEO of the Walt Disney Company, which is currently producing a spinoff of the iconic series. Bay takes the award for most supportive wife of the night, not only standing by her Iger’s side on a big night, but also literally showing her support for one of his projects.
