If You’re Wearing Matching Earrings, You’re Old-Fashioned, According to Kate Moss
Matching earrings are sooo two decades ago. At least according to Kate Moss. And if there’s anyone whose fashion advice we will always take, it’s Kate Moss.
In a May 13 interview with the Telegraph to promote the new jewelry range she’s designed with Ara Vartanian, the model and designer said, “Nobody wears pairs of earrings anymore; it’s old-fashioned.” Quick, get your cube-mate to switch an earring with you.
We knew mismatched earrings were becoming a trend — Ivanka Trump, Saoirse Ronan, and Diane Kruger have all nailed … or, should we say, pierced? … the look — but we didn’t know matching earrings was obsolete.
Well, if you want to be cool in Moss’s book, you’d best mix up all your earrings ASAP. “I like to throw it on, mix and match earrings,” Moss said. “It’s cooler when it’s not styled so much.” Moss is a master at “throwing something together” and making it look unstyled yet styled at the same time.
It’s kind of funny that she’s saying this, though, since the last few times we’ve seen Moss, she’s worn matching earrings, like at the amfAR event in S?o Paolo, which she attended with Vartanian. At that event, she wore a pair of dangling gemstone earrings. And even when she’s not in the spotlight, Moss wears matching earrings — out on the streets of London in March, she wore a pair of gold hoops. She also wore a pair of gold hoops at Paris Fashion Week that same month. So, she’s sort of calling herself old-fashioned. Not our words — hers!
However, Moss is really pushing this trend. Her new jewelry line is chock-full of single earrings, like an 18-carat white-gold cross with black diamonds and an 18-carat yellow-gold earring with rubies and black diamonds. Both are sold alone for more than $2,000 and $5,000, respectively. Moss appears in the collection’s campaign modeling the latter earring. Also featured in the bohemian and carefree campaign are the only four models, so far, signed to Moss’s newly launched modeling agency.
