Dover Street Market’s Murdered-Out Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Comes to Life When Hit With Light
More from Footwear News
At first glance, Dover Street Market‘s 20th anniversary Nike Zoom Vomero 5 appears much like it and Comme des Gar?ons’ numerous other all-black collaborations. But there’s a secret contained in the sneaker’s materials, one that comes to life when hit with light.
The Dover Street Market x Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “20th Anniversary” features reflective overlays that include the toe detailing, Swoosh outline and heel wraparound. The mismatched Nike Swoosh and DSM hut logo on the heel stand out when the panel hosting it reflects, and DSM branding on the tongue tags and right insole are the lone white features.
Dover Street Market is kicking off its “Power of 20” initiative with the Zoom Vomero 5, and given the boutique’s history of collaborations, there should be ample special-edition product to follow.
Amid the retro running trend that’s swept the sneaker industry, the Zoom Vomero 5 has been a stalwart for Nike. The model originally launched in 2011 and was praised for the comfort and stability offered by its midsole with dual Zoom Air units and Cushlon foam and the upper’s dynamic caging at the midfoot and heel. A-Cold-Wall brought back the shoe in 2018 through a collaboration that gave the Zoom Vomero 5 a blocky, protruding heel — and the model then came back in full force beginning in 2022. And for a 13-year-old sneaker, the Zoom Vomero 5 still manages to stand out for its comfort.
The Dover Street Market x Nike Zoom Vomero 5 “20th Anniversary” will release Thursday, November 21, exclusive through Dover Street Market’s global stores and its E-Shop. Pricing is set at £165.
