The first thing OpenAI CTO Mira Murati's mother asked ChatGPT is hilarious
Mira Murati is OpenAI's influential chief technology officer.
Murati, an engineer, has been pivotal in developing ChatGPT and Dall-E 2 since 2018.
During Cannes Lions, Murati shared her mother's hilarious first reaction to ChatGPT.
Many people are surprised by ChatGPT's capabilities. Even the families of OpenAI's top staffers.
In a recent interview at Cannes Lions 2024, a gathering for creative and communications professionals, OpenAI's CTO Mira Murati said her mother's first question to ChatGPT was: "When will Mira get married?"
Murati's sister, who was guiding their mother through that first encounter, responded, "Well, mom, it's not magic. It's still artificial intelligence," Murati said.
Murati's takeaway was that ChatGPT is a skilled conversationalist. "She was having such a natural interaction with it that she thought she could ask anything," Murati said.
Murati, 35, graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in mechanical engineering. After stints at Tesla and Leap Motion, she joined OpenAI as a researcher in 2018, and has helped guide teams building its most critical products, like ChatGPT and the image generator Dall-E 2. She also briefly served as the company's interim CEO during Sam Altman's surprise ousting last year.
For the curious, we also asked ChatGPT when Murati would get married. Here's what the bot had to say:
"There is no public information about Mira Murati's personal plans, including if or when she intends to get married. Like many public figures, she tends to keep her private life out of the spotlight."
Fair enough.
