Known as a Games Industry Hub, Korea’s Gyeonggi Province Touts IP at Taiwan Creative Content Fest

South Korea’s Gyeonggi Province is to be a prominent fixture at the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF) this week in Taipei, Taiwan (Nov. 5 to 8).

Through its Gyeonggi Content Agency, the province will operate the Gyeonggi Pavilion to introduce the products and services of promising companies and sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) for strategic collaboration.

The Gyeonggi Content Agency, says it is “responsible for revitalizing the K-content industry and growing companies in Gyeonggi.” Its aim at TCCF is to actively promote Gyeonggi as “The Heart of K-Content Creativity,” help its companies expand their global sales and build connections in Taiwan.

Gyeonggi Province accounts for a KRW6 trillion of gming industry revenue. And 40% of Korea’s games companies have units in the Pangyo Techno Valley These include. Nexon, NCsoft, Kakao Games, and Smilegate.

The Gyeonggi Pavilion will feature seven smaller animation and character IP-based content companies. The participating companies are: Universe Design (Suwon), Eunhu Holdings (Gimpo), Studio W. Baba (Bucheon), Pixtrend (Goyang), Whyj Contents (Bucheon), HSWorks (Bucheon), and TIME FIXER (Bucheon), each of which will present original content and IP.

Hsworks and Eunhu Holdings will both give 10-minute presentations in English at TCCF’s Pitching Showcase on Wednesday to promote their content to the global market.

Eunhu is known for making connections between merchandise and consumer products on one hand and media content on the other. It is now developing an original movie.

HSWorks (aka Handsome Studio) is a design studio that plans, develops and produces kidult contents based on content and stories from Korea. Its “Kokdu Mate,” for example, is a modern interpretation of Korean traditional culture that has been iterated as tourist souvenirs while its “Uncle Mermaid” and “Cute Snout” properties are original IP.

“Through participation in the TCCF, we expect Gyeonggi-do content companies to strengthen their competitiveness in Taiwan and Asian markets, expand their global networks, and create a wider range of overseas export results,” said Tark Yong Seok, president of the GCA.

For the GCA, TCCF is part of a cycle of promotional efforts at markets and festivals. It was recently at Mipcom in France and will also participate in next month’s ATF in Singapore. And, while in Taiwan, GCA executives will also visit a number of Taiwan-based companies.
