With the college football season just a week away from kicking off, Nike has a new colorway of Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders’ signature sneaker set to hit shelves soon.
Already appearing at some retailers ahead of its official release date is the Nike Air DT Max ’96 “Colorado Home” style. Made famous by Sanders during the mid-1990s as a member of the Dallas Cowboys, the Nike Air DT Max ’96 (sometimes called the Diamond Turf 3) was the dual-sport star’s third signature sneaker with the brand. It was originally released in 1996 and was notable for adding visible Max Air cushioning to the midsole.
One of Sanders’ most popular models, the Air DT Max ’96 has been reissued numerous times and was last seen in 2018 prior to its current run. Unlike that version, which was released during a period when Sanders and Nike didn’t have an active deal, the 2024 update includes an original detail: a silhouette of the player-turned-coach’s face peeking through the bottom of the Max Air window.
Having already been released this year in a Buffaloes-apropos “Varsity Maize” colorway, the Air DT Max ’96 is now getting covered in the team’s home colors. This “Colorado Home” style uses a two-tone black and “Vegas Gold” look throughout its upper in a mix of leather and nubuck.
In a January Instagram clip teasing the return of his Nike signature line, Sanders previewed a cleat version of the “Colorado Home” Air DT Max ’96. Various colors of the cleats were worn by players last season, and Sanders has also been spotted wearing a custom version with updated cushioning. The classic ’90s styling was also featured on exclusive colorways of LeBron James’ signature sneaker.
In a Friday X post, Sanders re-shared the images seen here and captioned his post “they coming.” The Nike Air DT Max ’96 “Colorado Home” is expected to be officially released September 2 for a retail price of $170 from Nike’s SNKRS app and select stockists.
