Ronnie Fieg Unveils Kith’s Next New Balance Sneakers Will Take the Minimalist Approach

Ronnie Fieg has taken to social media to reveal Kith’s next New Balance sneaker collaboration.
The Kith 101 x New Balance 1000 and 990v4 each appear with their own monochromatic look. Kith’s 101 program is all about stripping product down the basics so as to highlight the quality, and the two models do just that by opting for a single color for their suede dominated uppers. Both sneakers make use of two different suede textures, with the shaggier material appearing on the toe and heel of each.
Grey-ish blue defines the 1000, while the 990v4 is clad in light brown. The two sneakers also share off-white sole units and laces, as well as translucent “N” logos. Based on the photos shared by Fieg thus far, a small Kith logo can be seen debossed onto the tongue of only the 1000 but is likely replicated on its counterpart as well.
New Balance just reached into its archives this year to revive the 1000, a model originally released in 1999 and relaunched first through a Joe Freshgoods collaboration invoking the aughts. A number of in-house colorways have since released throughout the course of the year, and Kith will become the model’s third collaborator after an Aimé Leon Dore made three editions.
The 990 line is, of course, already well established within sneaker culture, and the fourth version of the sneaker born in 1982 made its debut in 2016. New Balance is now on v6, as the updates have ramped up in regularity over the last decade. Joe Freshgoods has also worked on the 990v4 through a capsule inspired by the cult classic Hype Williams film “Belly” that released last year.
A release date has yet to be announced for the Kith 101 x New Balance 1000 and 990v4 but could come within the next week, based on how Fieg and co.’s previous rollouts. This post will be updated as more information becomes available.
