Soundcloud now lets you change your app icon

Soundcloud is going above and beyond when it comes to customizing listeners’ mobile app experiences.

On Tuesday, the music streaming service announced that mobile app users can now change their Soundcloud app icon – what appears on your phone’s home screen.

The company’s logo, a cloud with one half designed to resemble an audio file, has not changed since it was founded in 2007, but Soundcloud did change its ubiquitous orange-colored app icon to a light blue background earlier this year as part of a promotional campaign for Billie Eilish’s album “Hit Me Hard and Soft.”

That change was not received well by the Soundcloud community, with some describing it as “[feeling] so wrong” and others simply stating, “This is stupid.”

Eventually, after about a month, the orange logo returned.

Speculation over another app icon change began Monday afternoon when Soundcloud posted a message to X asking “what ur favorite color i’m tryna see something” [sic] and the announcement of the new designs came less than 24 hours later.

Soundcloud users now have seven new designs to choose from for their app icon:

  • Hot pink

  • Leopard print

  • Tie-dye

  • Chrome

  • Silver

  • Rose gold

  • Soft purple

For traditionalists, the original orange icon – and the revamped black icon – are both still available.

The following steps can be taken to change the icon:

  • iOS users: Make sure app is updated, then go to Settings -> App Icon

  • Android users: Make sure app is updated, then go to Settings -> Basic Settings -> Change App Icon
