- Esteemed rapper and producer Erick Sermon sat down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN for story time on the latest episode of “Drink Champs.” As the genre of Hip Hop started taking shape in the mid 1980s, a young Sermon began establishing himself as a beat-maker and song manufacturer. The ensemble continued to drop respected projects throughout the 1990s, simultaneously becoming a force as one of the best-selling acts on their then-label Def Jam Recordings.

De La Soul co-founder Trugoy the Dove dead at 54
David Jude Jolicoeur, known widely as Trugoy the Dove and one of the founding members of the Long Island hip-hop trio De La Soul, has died. In recent years, Jolicoeur, had said he was battling congestive heart failure and wore a LifeVest defibrillator machine. De La Soul was part of the hip-hop tribute at the Grammy Awards last week, but Trugoy was not onstage with his fellow bandmates.

Hip-Hop Artist Hurricane G Dead at 52
I can’t remember where, I was when I first heard that bar, spit over the type of grungy track that epitomized Redman’s second solo album. The bar was basic, far from what I would hear on later mixtapes, features and finally, solo projects that represented Hurricane G’s best work.
