‘A Different World’ Cast Reunites on ‘Steve Harvey’ and Talks About Cast Hanky-Panky
“Where Are They Now?” Week wrapped up on the Steve Harvey Show on Friday. Our favorite mustachioed daytime host — sorry, Dr. Phil — welcomed Darryl Bell, Charnele Brown, Cree Summer, Kadeem Hardison, and Jasmine Guy from the cast of A Different World to his studio. During their conversation, Harvey mentioned that while Whitley and Dwayne were an item, and Ron and Freddie were an item, in real life, the actors playing Dwayne and Freddie were an item. I know. I KNOW. So was it awkward on set? Nope, according to Freddie, uh, I mean Cree Summer.
“We’re professional actors,” Summer told Harvey. “Not only are we professional actors, but Jasmine and I are soul sisters. We fell madly in love the moment we met, so these love scenes used to make us giggle. We used to enjoy some sweet grass and laugh about it. As you know, Steve, because you were on TV, those scenes are everything but sexy. You know what I mean? They’re not sexy at all. There’s too many people there, there’s too much going on to feel threatened by it in any way.”
Darryl Bell pointed out how much the hanky-panky was spread around their characters. “While “[Kadeem] and Cree are in a relationship, Charnele’s character, Kim, and Ron were an item, and then Ron left Kim to get with Freddie, so this whole couch is incestuous,” he joked.
