Contestant Brought to Tears After Killing Pig on ‘Naked and Afraid XL’
On Naked and Afraid XL, hunting guide Matt W. finally tracked down the elusive wild pig he had been hoping to find. After going several days with almost no food, Matt and his tribe mate, Russell, were in desperate need of nutrition. Luckily for them, some nearby pigs were be noisy enough to catch their attention.
Matt and Russell tracked the wild pigs into the jungle, nearly shooting one with an arrow. Unfortunately, the arrow was deflected, and they went home empty-handed.
The next morning, inspired by the previous day’s hunt, Matt decided to go out on his own and try to hunt down a pig. Matt was successful in firing an arrow clean through a wild pig, killing it.
While Matt has hunted animals before in his life, he was overcome with emotion after the kill. Standing over the slaughtered pig, an emotional Matt said, “I don’t know if I’ve ever killed anything that meant this much. It’s not just about the hunt right now, it’s about our, essentially, gift from nature to, you know, aid in our survival.”
Carrying the pig back to camp, Matt continued to talk about he impact of hunt, saying, “I’ve killed a lot of animals in my life. Right now, is seriously one of the most emotional kills I’ve ever had.” He then thanked the pig for its sacrifice so that he might survive saying, “Thank you for this gift — it will not go to waste.”
Upon returning to camp, Russell and Matt built a smoker and feasted on the first meat he’d had since arriving in the jungle.
Naked and Afraid XL airs Sundays at 10 p.m. on Discovery.
