Jay-Z released a companion video to his album 4:44, titled “Footnotes for 4:44,” in which he comes clean about his alleged affair while married to Beyoncé. In the video, he says, “I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 percent truth, and it starts cracking.

Many of the daytime shows reacted to the musician’s confession. On Today, Kathie Lee Gifford said, “Having been through it myself, it’s no fun. It’s horrible. It’s a tremendous test of your relationship.”

Gifford experienced the public affair of her late husband, Frank Gifford. She added, “The ones who make it through, I honestly believe it is with the help of God. That’s the only way. It takes a lifetime to build that kind of friendship and history together and trust. It takes one stupid decision to destroy it.”

On The Talk, Sheryl Underwood commended Jay-Z for his emotional honesty. She went on to explain that men are often chastised for showing their feelings in public.

Most of the hosts of The View were sympathetic to Jay-Z, but Joy Behar took a different look at the situation. She said, “I’m not so sure about coming clean, though, all the time. People are married. You know you’re married for a while, maybe somebody had a little bit of an affair. You moved on. It’ll pass like a kidney stone.”
