Disagreeing with Trump is a common theme at the Miss America pageant
The 2018 Miss America pageant got political, with President Trump coming up consistently in the final question round. All but one question related directly or indirectly to Trump. Cara Mund, Miss North Dakota, found herself in the hot seat on the hot topic of climate change and specifically whether or not she thought Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord was a good one. Her answer was a hard “no.”
“I do believe it’s a bad decision,” she said. “Once we reject that, we take ourselves out of the negotiation table, and that’s something we really need to keep in mind. There is evidence that climate change is existing, and whether you believe it or not, we need to be at that table, and I just think it’s a bad decision on behalf of the United States.” In the end, disagreeing with Trump definitely did not hurt; Miss North Dakota crowned Miss America.
But she wasn’t the only contestant who disagreed with the president. Margana Wood, Miss Texas, wasn’t too keen on Trump’s response — or lack of a quick one — to recent events in Charlottesville, Va., saying, “I think that the white supremacist issue — it was very obvious that it was a terrorist attack. And I think that President Donald Trump should have made a statement earlier addressing the fact, and making sure that all Americans feel safe in this country. That’s the issue right now.”
