#TeamJaime or #TeamTormund? Gwendoline Christie (Brienne!) Has a Surprising Answer
Despite a multitude of different plotlines, what Game of Thrones lacks is characters worthy of shipping. The most obvious pair is just disturbing: aunt/nephew combo Daenerys and Jon Snow. That perhaps explains why GoT fans have settled on rooting for one of the show’s best characters, Brienne of Tarth, to end up with either of two other popular characters, Tormund Giantsbane or Jaime Lannister.
After Brienne and Jaime traveled to King’s Landing together, it was obvious a mutual affection grew. And those looks the two gave each other when they were briefly reunited in the Riverlands last season only gave fans more fuel for their fire. Of course, then there’s the one-sided attraction Tormund has for Brienne.
When Yahoo TV sat down to talk with two-thirds of that shipper love triangle, Gwendoline Christie (Brienne) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime), we asked them to weigh in on the #TeamTormund v. #TeamJaime debate.
Perhaps staying loyal to Cersei even out of character, Coster-Waldau said he’s #TeamTormund. “It’s difficult for them to hide the attraction when you see it,” joked the Danish actor. “I think Brienne needs [Tormund] in her life. A man who can take care of her and hold her, like no man has ever held her before. And he is a bear of a man.”
“I think it’s so interesting that one of the female characters who’s not deemed conventionally attractive in any way whatsoever has incited so much interest over her love life,” Christie said. “And I like that it’s come later in all of these seasons, too, because really we focused on the kind of choices Brienne has made, her actions, her fighting, the way in which she’s overcome the obstacles in her life, and then this is a sort of bit of gentle comedy, which I’m enjoying exploring, too.”
Christie suggested a different character for Brienne to be shipped with, and we’ve got to say that it’s an intriguing one: “To be honest, I would like to see Brienne with Daenerys,” she said with a smile.
